- File Management
-
- *3*T1*L
- The File Management menu can be
- accessed from the toolkit menu. The
- File Management area allows you to
- have a great deal of control over
- where a program keeps its files,
- where it looks for its files, and
- allows files used by the program to
- be shared between Primary WORKS
- programs.
-
- It also allows files to be deleted.

-
- *3*L*T1
- It is important to become familiar
- with the use of Pathnames before
- delving into the file management area.
-
- Pathnames provide a way of organising
- files. A pathname represents a full
- description of where a program is
- 'looking' for a file. Normally, the
- program will look after this aspect of
- file management. Primary WORKS has
- been designed to allow the user a
- great deal of control over where work
- is kept and how group work may be
- organised.

- *3*L*T1
-
- Slide-it picture files are kept in a
- sub-directory of Slide-it. It is the
- default directories which the program
- will always revert to whenever it is
- first loaded. It shares this with
- Move-it.
-
- The default sub-directory is:
-
- *15*T1*c
- \PWORKS\MOVESLID\PICTURES\

-
- Slide-it offers the facility to move
- pictures to and from other areas of
- the hard disk or on to a floppy disk.
-
- The key to moving files and to using
- files you may have stored elsewhere,
- is the Change path option.
- **
- *15*T1*C
- File Management - continued (p5)
-
- *3*L*T1
- Once the Change path option has been
- selected, the program will show you
- the present path description in full.
-
- If you continue, the program will list
- all the possible places you might want
- to change the pathname to.
-
- The current path will be indicated by
- two large red arrow heads.
-
- A change of path description will mean
- resources in that area can be accessed.

- File Management - continued (p6)
-
- *3*L*T1
- Once the pathname has been changed,
- the program will carry out a little
- housekeeping exercise. If it finds
- any files in the new pathname that it
- does not recognise, it will display a
- message indicating as much and asking
- if you require the detected files to
- be included in the pathname file
- directory.
- When transferring or deleting files,
- the new pathname will be used as the
- source directory.
